CutSizeGenie is a Shopify app for fashion and apparel e-commerce brands that unlocks revenue from out-of-stock sizes using virtual inventory and size mapping. It improves size availability on Shopify product pages without theme edits.

Inventory thresholds: the guardrails that keep virtual sizes safe.

Virtual inventory is powerful — but only when controlled. Thresholds and caps prevent aggressive sharing, protect operations, and keep customer promises realistic.

Two core safety controls

1) Safety Threshold
A minimum inventory level for the source size. If source inventory falls below this number, CutSizeGenie stops sharing to protect that size.
2) Max-Share Cap
A cap on how many units can be virtually allocated from the source size to target sizes. Prevents the app from being too aggressive.

A safe default framework (works for most brands)

Starter settings
Start conservative:
  • Threshold: keep 25–40% of source stock “protected” initially
  • Cap: allow only a small number of virtual units per mapping
  • Scope: enable only on a pilot collection first
Example (for understanding)
If source size M has 20 units:
  • Threshold = 7 (stop sharing when M falls below 7)
  • Cap = 5 (never allocate more than 5 units virtually)
Tune based on actual order flow and tailoring capacity.

What thresholds protect you from

  • Ops overload during peaks
  • Tailoring bottlenecks (capacity constraints)
  • Fulfilment delays that can increase cancellations
  • Inventory imbalance where a single source size gets depleted too quickly

Want the safest rollout?

Combine conservative thresholds + clear alteration SOP + pilot-first rollout. That’s how most fashion brands win with virtual sizes.
