CutSizeGenie is a Shopify app for fashion and apparel e-commerce brands that unlocks revenue from out-of-stock sizes using virtual inventory and size mapping. It improves size availability on Shopify product pages without theme edits.

Virtual inventory & size mapping glossary.

Clear, merchant-friendly definitions for the terms used in CutSizeGenie and Shopify fashion inventory workflows.

Virtual Inventory
A controlled way to make a product variant appear “in stock” on Shopify by temporarily allocating stock from another mapped variant (source size), while keeping safety rules to avoid uncontrolled overselling.
Size Mapping
Rules that define which size can borrow inventory from which other size (example: S borrows from M; L borrows from XL) when a target size is out of stock.
Target Size
The size variant that is out of stock (or low stock) and receives virtual inventory based on your mappings.
Source Size (Jump Size)
The size variant that has real inventory and can share limited stock to the target size. Often a “jump size” stocked in higher quantities (like M or XL).
Safety Threshold
A minimum inventory level you set for a source size. If inventory drops below this value, sharing stops for that mapping to keep operations safe.
Max-Share Cap
A limit that controls how many units a source size is allowed to allocate virtually to a target size. Helps avoid aggressive selling beyond ops capacity.
Out-of-Stock (OOS)
A variant condition where Shopify inventory is 0 (or below the available threshold), making the size unavailable on the product page.
PDP (Product Detail Page)
The product page where customers choose size and add to cart. Size availability on the PDP strongly affects conversion for fashion brands.
PDP Conversion Rate
The percentage of visitors to a PDP who complete a purchase (or sometimes who add to cart). Out-of-stock sizes typically reduce this metric.
ROAS
Return on Ad Spend. When ads drive traffic to PDPs with out-of-stock sizes, conversions drop and ROAS falls. Improving availability can improve ROAS.
Alteration / Cut-Size Workflow
Operational process where a neighbouring size can be adjusted to fulfil the customer’s chosen size. CutSizeGenie is best where this is practical.
Inventory Location
A Shopify location (warehouse/DC/retail) where inventory is stored. Multi-location stores may prefer location-aware virtual inventory behavior.
Variant
A specific version of a product (like size S, color Red). Shopify tracks inventory at the variant level.
Variant Mapping
The technical representation of size mapping inside the app (which source variant can supply which target variant).
Virtual Order
An order where at least one line item was fulfilled using virtual inventory mapping (target size purchased, source size stock consumed).
Audit Log
A record of what virtual inventory was pushed and what virtual orders consumed stock, used for ops clarity and troubleshooting.
